GTM Engineer Jobs: What 2026 Job Descriptions Actually Ask For

A
Akash MunshiOctober 13, 2026

GTM engineer jobs in 2026 ask you to build the systems that create pipeline: data enrichment, signal detection, routing and AI agents wired into the CRM. We read 29 live postings from 22 companies on October 10, 2026. The most common requirements were Salesforce, Clay, API integration work and LLM experience, with Python or SQL at 13 of the 22 companies. Here is what the postings say, where to find them and how to stand out.

How did we read 2026 GTM engineer job postings?

We pulled every posting with "GTM" or "go-to-market" plus "engineer" in the title from the public job-board APIs of Ashby, Greenhouse and Lever for a list of companies found hiring for the role, on 2026-10-10. That gave 29 open postings at 22 companies, from seed-stage startups to Toast [1-22].

Then we counted, per company, how many postings mentioned each skill or tool anywhere in the text. That includes "nice to have" mentions, so treat the counts as "this comes up," not "this is required." The sample skews toward venture-backed companies, because they are the ones using these job boards. Several roles that search engines still listed, such as postings at Owner.com and Glimpse, were no longer on those companies' boards when we checked, so expect openings to move quickly.

What skills do GTM engineer job descriptions require?

The core requirement is building automated GTM systems that connect tools through APIs, with AI now part of the default stack. Counts below are companies (out of 22) whose GTM engineer posting mentions the item:

Skill or tool Companies mentioning it (of 22)
APIs and integrations 15
Salesforce 13
Clay 13
LLMs, Claude or OpenAI 13
Python 10
SQL 9
HubSpot 9
Data warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, dbt, Redshift, Databricks) 9
JavaScript or TypeScript 8
n8n or Zapier 5
Apollo 5
Gong 5
Sequencers (Smartlead, Instantly, Lemlist, Outreach, Salesloft) 5

Source: Drevon count of 29 postings at 22 companies, pulled 2026-10-10 [1-22]. Clay's own postings are included in the Clay count.

Three patterns stand out.

First, the CRM still anchors the job. Salesforce appears as often as Clay, and the Salesforce asks are deep. Toast wants "Hands-on Salesforce experience: data model, Flow, APIs, permissions" [12]. Mitek asks for Salesforce proficiency across "data modelling, process design, automation, reports, dashboards, permissions and data-quality governance" [18].

Second, LLM work has moved from bonus to requirement at the higher-paid roles. Toast requires "At least one LLM-powered workflow or agent you built that a business team used in production," with tool calling, error handling and evaluation, and says you will be asked to walk through it [12]. Samba TV's AI GTM Engineer builds MCP servers that give Claude "governed, real-time access" to Salesforce, Gong and Snowflake data, and designs evals for every production AI system [20]. Three postings name Claude Code specifically [7][17][20].

Third, code is common but not universal. Python or SQL shows up at 13 of the 22 companies. The roles that skip code lean on Clay, HubSpot and sequencers instead, and they post lower salary ranges, which we break down in our GTM engineer salary guide.

What do GTM engineers actually build in these roles?

Isometric line-art of four connected systems: an enrichment pipeline, a signal radar, a scoring and routing switch, and an AI assistant for sellers

The postings describe four recurring systems: enrichment pipelines, signal detection, scoring and routing, and AI agents for sellers.

System Example from a live posting
Outbound data pipeline Cruva: "ICP definition, lead sourcing, enrichment, segmentation, and sequencing across Clay, Apollo, HubSpot" [9]
Signal detection Convex: "Every week thousands of developers sign up... Your job is to help build the systems to find signal in the noise" [7]
Scoring and routing Firework: stand up "enrichment, sourcing, scoring, and routing systems" [14]
Seller-facing AI Clay (Manager): "design tooling that surfaces the right context at the right moment (before QBRs, during renewals, ahead of expansions)" [4]
Full GTM infrastructure White Circle: "design the data model, keep the CRM reliable, connect the stack, deploy AI agents, automate outbound and inbound workflows" [17]

Signals and enrichment each came up at 15 of the 22 companies, routing at 11 and scoring at 8. If you are preparing for interviews, being able to explain a lead scoring model you built, including how you calibrated it, is directly on topic.

AI governance is now part of the job description too. Mitek asks for working knowledge of "prompt design, structured outputs, testing and evaluation, monitoring, exception handling and human oversight" [18]. Samba TV wants eval frameworks that catch "prompt drift, model behavior changes, and degraded tool use" before they reach sellers [20]. If you have built an agent, expect questions on how you know it is still working next month, and have an answer with numbers.

The common thread is that these roles replace manual work done by people. That is why many companies frame the hire against SDR headcount, which we cover in how GTM engineers are replacing SDR teams.

What job titles do companies use for GTM engineers?

"GTM Engineer" is now the dominant title, but the same job hides behind at least six variants. Titles in our sample:

  • GTM Engineer (most postings)
  • Senior or Sr. GTM Engineer (Engine, Firework)
  • Founding GTM Engineer or Founding GTM AI Engineer (White Circle, Revic)
  • AI GTM Engineer (Samba TV)
  • GTM Engineer, Systems and Infrastructure, and GTM Engineer Manager (Clay)
  • Software Engineer, GTM Ops (Clay) and Staff Software Engineer, GTM and AI Strategy (Toast)
  • Senior GTM Systems AI and Automation Engineer (Camunda)
  • GTM Engineer / AI Engineer (The Global Talent Co., hiring in Latin America, Poland, the Philippines and South Africa)

Search for all of them. Also search adjacent titles: "growth engineer," "revenue systems engineer," "RevOps engineer" and "forward deployed engineer," because some companies post the same work under those names. Toast says outright that it weighs "the depth of what you've shipped over the title you held," and lists GTM engineering, business systems, solutions or forward deployed engineering, data engineering and software engineering as relevant backgrounds [12].

How much experience do GTM engineer jobs require?

Most postings ask for 3 to 6 years, and true entry-level roles are rare. Stated requirements in our sample ranged from 2+ years at White Circle [17] to "6-10 years in Technical RevOps, GTM Engineering, or SRE" for Clay's systems and infrastructure role [3]. Steven Moody's May 2026 benchmark of 491 US roles goes further: "There are no real junior GTM Engineer roles" [23].

The same benchmark found that 30% of roles were still open three months after posting [23]. Read that as a hiring market where companies struggle to find the full skill set, not one with spare junior openings.

If you are coming from RevOps, sales ops or SDR work, the practical path is to build GTM systems in your current job first, then apply with the artifacts. Our GTM engineer explainer covers the role and how people move into it.

Where can you find GTM engineer jobs?

The most complete source is company job boards, because startups post there first and many never pay for wider distribution. Places worth checking weekly:

  1. Ashby, Greenhouse and Lever boards. Search "GTM Engineer" with the site's domain (jobs.ashbyhq.com, job-boards.greenhouse.io, jobs.lever.co) in your search engine. Every posting in this article came from one of the three.
  2. Clay's GTM Job Board at clay.com/job-board, which lists roles for people with Clay skills across sales, marketing, RevOps and growth, filterable by location and category [24].
  3. GTMEcareers.com, a job board dedicated to GTM engineering, which showed 165 jobs in its GTM Engineering category on 2026-10-10 and lets you filter by remote and salary [25].
  4. The Clay community's full-time jobs channel, where hiring managers post roles directly [26].
  5. LinkedIn job search with saved alerts for each title variant in the previous section.

Set alerts for every title variant as well as the main title. A "Founding GTM AI Engineer" posting will not show up in a search for "GTM Engineer" on every board.

How do you stand out for a GTM engineer job?

Bring proof of a system you built, running, with a number attached. The best-paid postings ask for it explicitly: Toast's interview includes walking through your production LLM workflow [12], and Samba TV wants evals that measure "real business impact, not just vibes" [20].

What to prepare:

  • One end-to-end project you can demo: source accounts, enrich them, detect a signal, score, route, and show the meetings or pipeline it produced.
  • An LLM workflow with evaluation. Show how you tested its output and caught failures. Our post on evals for GTM research agents covers how to do that.
  • Proof you can change the CRM's data model as well as export from it: a Salesforce Flow, a HubSpot custom object, a warehouse sync.
  • Readable code. Toast asks that you can "read, modify, and debug code you didn't write, including code generated by AI tools" [12]. Keep a public repo of small, clean utilities.
  • A point of view on tools. Cruva wants someone with "opinions on what is worth adopting and what is hype" [9]. Be ready to say what you would cut from a stack and why.

Coding agents are changing the bar here. A candidate who builds with Claude Code or Codex can ship in days what used to take a quarter, and hiring managers know it. We look at what that means for the role in does Claude Code replace the GTM engineer. Our view: the agent raises the floor, and the job shifts toward judgment about what to build and how to check it.

For the research-heavy part of a portfolio project, such as finding companies that just hired for a role or raised funding, Drevon can run the research in your own browser session and return each finding with a source link, which makes a demo easy to verify.

Frequently asked questions

Are GTM engineer jobs remote?

Some are. In our sample, Toast, Engine, ASG and Camunda posted remote roles, and Firework's senior role is remote for candidates in India and Mexico [14]. Inferact's role is on-site in San Francisco [15], and Convex says its team works in person in its San Francisco office [7].

Do GTM engineer jobs require coding?

Most do. Python or SQL appeared at 13 of the 22 companies we checked, and most of the higher-paid roles ask for code plus API work.

Is Clay required for GTM engineer jobs?

No, but it is common. Clay appeared at 13 of 22 companies, the same as Salesforce. Knowing Clay helps for outbound-heavy roles; it matters less for engineering-heavy ones.

What is the difference between a GTM engineer and RevOps?

RevOps runs and maintains the revenue stack; GTM engineers build new systems on it, usually with code, APIs and AI. Many postings, such as Mitek's, accept RevOps experience as a starting point [18].

How many GTM engineer jobs are there?

There is no reliable public count. GTMEcareers listed 165 GTM engineering jobs on 2026-10-10 [25], and Moody's benchmark hand-checked 491 US roles as of May 2026 [23]; both undercount roles posted under other titles.
